WHY PROFESSIONAL TYRE SERVICE MATTERS

Your tyres endure constant friction, heat, and pressure from the road. Even a small issue can compromise your safety, fuel efficiency, and vehicle handling. Here’s why professional tyre service is so important:

Safety — Properly maintained tyres provide optimal grip, shorter braking distances, and better control in wet or dry conditions.
Fuel Efficiency — Correct tyre pressure and alignment reduce rolling resistance, saving you money at the pump.
Tyre Longevity — Regular rotation, balancing, and alignment extend the life of your tyres.
Comfort — Well-maintained tyres absorb road imperfections, providing a smoother, quieter ride.
Vehicle Protection — Misaligned or unbalanced tyres can cause premature wear on suspension and steering components.

At SL Car Service, we don’t just change tyres — we ensure your vehicle is safe, efficient, and comfortable on every road in and around Pietermaritzburg. Every tyre service is carried out with precision and care.

OUR TYRE SERVICES INCLUDE

we provide a full range of tyre services to keep your vehicle safe and performing at its best, including:

Tyre Replacement & Fitting

We offer a wide selection of premium tyres for all vehicle makes and models. All tyre fittings are performed using professional mounting equipment to ensure a perfect seal. Old tyres are properly disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations.

Tyre Balancing

Proper balancing eliminates vibrations, extends tyre life, and improves ride comfort. All balancing procedures are carried out using computerized balancing equipment for maximum accuracy. Wheel weights are installed precisely to ensure smooth rotation.

Wheel Alignment

Misalignment can cause uneven tyre wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel efficiency. We use advanced 3D alignment technology to adjust camber, caster, and toe angles to factory specifications. Alignment checks are recommended annually or whenever new tyres are fitted.

Tyre Puncture Repair

Not all punctures require tyre replacement. Repairable punctures are professionally sealed using industry-approved patch/plug methods. All repairs are inspected for safety and integrity before the tyre is returned to service.

Tyre Rotation

Regular rotation ensures even wear across all four tyres, extending their lifespan. Rotation patterns are followed according to your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.

TPMS Service

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors are checked, recalibrated, or replaced as needed. Faulty TPMS sensors are diagnosed and repaired to ensure you're always alerted to pressure issues.

FAQS ABOUT TYRE CHANGE & REPAIR

Answers to common questions about our tyre services.

How often should I replace my tyres?
The general recommendation is to replace tyres every 40,000 to 80,000 kilometres, depending on driving habits, road conditions, and tyre quality. However, the legal minimum tread depth in South Africa is 1.6mm, and tyres should be replaced when they reach this limit — or sooner if there are visible signs of damage or uneven wear. Tyres older than 6 years should also be replaced, regardless of tread depth, due to rubber degradation.
How do I check my tyre tread depth?
You can use the coin test — insert a R2 coin into the tyre tread. If the coin's outer band is visible, your tread is below 1.6mm and your tyres should be replaced immediately. Alternatively, you can use a tread depth gauge, or bring your vehicle to us for a professional inspection.
What's the difference between wheel alignment and tyre balancing?
Wheel alignment adjusts the angles of the wheels to ensure they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. Misalignment causes uneven tyre wear and poor handling. Tyre balancing ensures that the weight of the tyre and wheel assembly is evenly distributed, preventing vibrations. Both services are important and are often performed together.
